Kathmadu is the capital city of the beautiful Himalayan country Nepal. Nepal is a popular tourist destination for a wide range of interests, including trekking, mountaineering, river rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding, jungle safari etc.  Eight of ten highest mountains in the world are located in Nepal, which include the world’s highest, Mt Everest (SAGARMATHA). Nepal is also famous for cultural heritages. It houses ten UNESCO world heritage sites, including the birth place of the Lord Buddha, Lumbini. Seven of the sites are located in Kathmandu valley itself. The participants will have opportunity to explore this small but diverse country. Visit the website of the Nepal Tourism Board for further information about Kathmandu Valley and Nepal.

12th International Conference on Quasicrystals (ICQ12)

Location : AGH University, Krakow, Poland

ICQ12

We invite you to Cracow!

The 12th International Conference on Quasicrystals (ICQ12)
will be held on September 1 - 6, 2013, at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, AGH University, Krakow, Poland.

ICQ12 provides an excellent opportunity to learn about new results in the field of quasicrystals and related topics. The ICQ12 follows the Nobel Prize given to Dan Shechtman in 2011 for the discovery of quasicrystals. Professor Shechtman will be an honourable guest of the Conference.

ICQ12 also offers an opportunity for researchers working on quasicrystals and related topics to exchange ideas and encourage collaborations with other research groups, hence promoting material science and engineering.

MRS Fall Meeting

Location : Boston

The next MRS Fall Meeting will take place in Boston November 25 - 30, 2012. We would like to draw your attention to Symposium KK "Complex Metallic Alloys", which we organized as a forum for current reasearch in the field of CMAs. Abstracts dealing with experimental and theoretical work on CMAs and on Quasicrystals are welcome.

The call for papers is available on the MRS website at
http://www.mrs.org/f12-cfp-kk/

Abstract submission is open from May 19 until June 19, 2012.

We have an attractive lineup of invited speakers, which will ensure an exciting and up-to-date symposium.

Marc Armbruester (Max Planck Inst. for Chemical Physics of Solids, Dresden, Germany)
Silke Buehler-Paschen (Technical Univ. Vienna, Austria)
Julia Dshemuchadse (ETH Zurich, Switzerland)
Holger Euchner (Univ. Stuttgart, Germany)
Emilie Gaudry (Institut Jean Lamour, CNRS, Nancy, France)
Marc Heggen (Forschungszentrum Juelich, Germany)
Do Hyang Kim (Yonsei Univ., Seoul, Korea)
Kaoru Kimura (Tokyo Univ., Japan)
Julian Ledieu (Institut Jean Lamour, CNRS, Nancy, France)
Gordon Miller (Ames Laboratory and Iowa State Univ., Ames, USA)
Sergio Scudino (IFW Dresden, Germany)
Ryuji Tamura (Science Univ. Tokyo, Japan).

As a colleague working in this field you are cordially encouraged to attend the symposium and to submit an abstract about your current work. Our experience with the three previous MRS symposia organized in the field (Fall 1998, Fall 2000, and Fall 2003) is that these meetings are highly fruitful and exciting, and also give us the chance to introduce our research to a wider audience from other fields in Materials Science.

Workshop on the surface structure determination using X-ray synchrotron radiation.

Location : Grenoble

The purpose of the workshop is to bring along specialists of the surface structure determination and researchers in the field of complex metallic alloys (CMA) in particular for the structure determination of CMA (bulk or surface). The workshop will focus on the technique of surface diffraction, its application on simple systems and its generalization for complex metallic alloys. Whereas the technique is widely used for ‘simple’ surfaces it has rarely been used for the study of the surface of complex metallic alloys. Recent measurements will be discussed and analyzed, and compared to what can be obtained by other techniques. This will be complemented by a comparison of what is achieved for the bulk structure determination.
